Tuberculin testing can identify patients with latent infection but there are high false-negative rates in HIV-positive patients, especially in those with low CD4 cell counts . In patients with AIDS or CD4 counts of less than 200 cells/mL, the sensitivity of the test is only 0–20%. False positives occur after BCG immunization. Some data suggest that combining IGRAs and tuberculin testing improves sensitivity. We do not recommend the routine use of TST.
